One, out of four missing in landslide, found dead

Phungling: One, out of four persons who went missing in the last night’s landslide at Mehele of Sidingawa rural municipality-6, has been found dead. The District Police Office (DPO), Panchthar said the lifeless body of Ganesh Tamang, 30, was retrieved today while the search operations for the remaining three continued.

DPO, Taplejung Police Chief Deputy Superintendent of Police, Rajan Limbu, said three of same family at Bhalukhop have gone missing. They are Bhagimaya Budha Chhetri, 63, her daughter-in-law Sandhya Budha Chhetri, 30, and grandson Prajwal Budha Chhetri, 9. Police have intensified the search for the missing.

Office spokesperson and information officer, Kushram Karki said the landslide buried the houses of Yadav Budha Chhetri and Ram Bahadur Tamang. Yadav was safe as he was not at home at the time of the disaster. He had been at Pedang of Sirijunga rural municipality-5 to visit his elder sister when his family suffered the disaster consequences.

Likewise, the landslide buried Ganesh while trying to rescue his parents and relocate them to a safer place. The landslide has caused extensive damage to the houses of Maheshwor Seling, Prem Seling, Dilli Seling, and Naresh Seling in Sidingawa-3. Additionally, the landslide has posed a significant risk to around 20 other houses in the area, putting them in danger of potential disaster.
