Makawanpur: Three candidates representing different political parties have registered their candidacies for Deputy Speaker of the Bagmati Province Assembly on Friday.
The election is scheduled to take place on January 16 to pick the deputy speaker in the province assembly. All three candidates vying for the post are women.
CPN-UML’s Apsara Chapagain has registered her candidacy for the post on behalf of the ruling coalition. Likewise, Nepali Congress (NC) has fielded Suna Pariyar in the race.
Similarly, Geeta Kafle registered her candidature on behalf of the Nepal Majdoor Kisan Party.
Election Officer and Chief Secretary of Bagmati Province Assembly Secretariat, Krishna Hari Khadka shared the election to the post of deputy speaker has been set for January 16, 3.00 pm.
The province assembly has a total of 110 members representing different political parties.
In a second meeting of the Bagmati province assembly held on Friday, newly-elected Speaker Bhuwan Kumar Pathak directed Chief Secretary Khadka to conduct election for deputy speaker on January 16. Khadka had also made public the election schedule accordingly.
After taking oath of office and secrecy, Speaker Pathak assumed the office friday.
At the assembly meeting, top leaders of the seven political parties representing the province assembly urged the newly-elected Speaker to keep high the glory of the province by embracing democratic norms and values.
