Human rights magna meet concludes by issuing 21-point declaration
Kathmandu: The 14th national human rights magna meet for this year has concluded on Wednesday by issuing a 21-point declaration on protection and promotion of human rights.
The declaration stressed that the Paris Principles must be enforced in the formation and operation of human rights commission by establishing coordination and cooperation among the human rights institutions.
The discrimination in the acquisition of citizenship must be ended, thereby ensuring citizenship to every Nepali citizen, the declaration read, adding that the government needs to formulate necessary laws, and resources to effectively implement the federal system along with coordination among three layers of the government.
The international human rights instruments including the UDHR and ICCPR and the commitments must be domesticated. The government has been asked to implement the recommendation made by the National Human Rights Commission on human rights violation and atrocities. Also to be enforced fully are the fundamental rights enshrined in the constitution, the declaration added.
It has further reminded that government why the transitional justice was delayed much, thereby meting out injustice to the conflict victims. The magna meet begun a week back had the participation of more than 180 human rights defenders. The meet was coordinated by Paurakhi Nepal.
