Death toll rises to eight in Darchula jeep accident

Darchula: The death toll of Darchula jeep accident reached eight, according to the police. Five others were critically injured in the road accident occurred in the district this morning. It is said that a jeep (Ma 1 Ja 338) heading to Gokuleshwor from Malikarjun Jatra met the accident at 4:00 am today in Sirad river of Shailyashikhar Municipality-5.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Darchula, Prakash Dahal, said 30-year-old Birendra Rawal and Shanti Rawal, 28, of Lekgaun in Shailyashikhar Municipality-5; Dilip Bista, 45, and Mina Lekhak, 35, of Shailyashikhar Municipality-9 and Sanjib Bohora, 15, and Birendra Singh Bohora of Dilashaini Rural Municipality-5 in Baitadi district died in the accident.

Likewise, Mohammad Safir, 45, and Mohammad Basim, 18, of Uttar Pradesh in India also passed away in the mishap, DSP Dahal said. Uttam Rokaya of Dilasaini-5, Sandip Rawal and Prakash Rawal of Shailyashikhar-5, jeep driver Sunil Joshi of Malikarjun-8 and Suhil Sah of Uttar Pradesh in India were injured in the mishap.

The jeep was carrying the passengers from the Malikarjun Jatra, a popular fair in the district.
