Kathmandu: CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has held discussions with the office-bearers and representatives of transport entrepreneurs’ and transport workers’ associations regarding resolving the problem created by the recent natural disasters in the country’s transport sector.
The Maoist Centre Chairman, who has carried out a monitoring of the damage caused by landslide and floods in various places, expressed his commitment to take initiatives for addressing the problems in the transport sector.
On the occasion, he acquired information on various topics as condition of roads following the natural disaster, the condition of people returning home during the Dasain period and the problems faced by the transport entrepreneurs.
The Maoist Centre Chair and former Prime Minister said that this discussion is his initiative as the leader of the main opposition party in parliament to resolve the problems in the aftermath of the disaster. He said that during his monitoring visit in the affected areas in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur and Kavre, he found that vehicles are still under landslide debris at several places, transport services remain disrupted, the transport sector has suffered big losses and the transport workers are in distress. The discussions with the transport entrepreneurs and workers were held today at Dahal’s private residence at Khumaltar, Lalitpur.
The office-bearers of the Transport Federation and the Transport Workers Organisation shared about their problems they are facing such as the transport sector has been hit by big crisis, the entrepreneurs have suffered losses and the government not being able to take initiative for the safety of transport workers and that even data of the losses in the transport sector were not collected.
They demanded that the government should rescue the transport workers and the vehicles stranded due to the floods and landslides make provisions for relief to the workers and entrepreneurs who have become homeless and to facilitate in immediately providing the insurance amount for vehicles that have been buried and washed away by flood and landslide.
