Mahottari: With the Chaurchan festival round the corner, there is an increasing demand of banana. It is the fruit offered to the Moon during the festival celebration. Most of the marketplaces are now selling banana, which is essential fruit in this festival. However, the there is no sufficient fruit.
The Moon is worshipped on the occasion of the festival that falls on chauthi of Shuklapaksya as per lunar calendar. The major day is observed coming Friday. The Chaurchan festival is a significant cultural event in Mithila community.
The marketplaces are now thronged by the farmers and traders to transact agricultural products in the wake of the approaching festival. It is the opportunity for the banana farmers to sell their products and make income. A farmer from Ram Nagar of Bhangaha-4, Satya Narayan Yadav, shared that he had earned Rs 200 thousand by selling the banana fruit for the festival.
Yadav has cultivated banana on 10 katthas of land.
Meanwhile, Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Mahottari district, said the transaction of Rs 5 million would be ensured with banana fruits during the festival. Even the unripe banana is sold on this occasion. As the unripe banana is on sale, the local authorities have been urged to adopt tight monitoring.
