Maoist Centre Chair Dahal honours Paris Paralympics bronze medalist Palesha

Kathmandu: Former Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, honoured Palesha Govardhan who won a bronze medal in the Paralympics-2024, amidst a programme held at Khumaltar today.

Along with Palesha, he also felicitated instructor Kabiraj Negi Lama, manager Ram Chandra Shrestha and Palesha’s father, Pradip. Addressing the programme, Dahal said that Palesha’s victory has provided an opportunity for Nepalis throughout the world to be proud of.

“It is not an ordinary feat for Nepal to secure a medal for the first time in the history of the Olympics; this has provided an opportunity for the Nepali throughout the world to be proud of,” he said, adding that the sports sector promotes national unity, economic prosperity and international diplomacy. Dahal wished Palesha all success in the future Olympics as well.

The former Prime Minister described Palesha’s this victory as an important win setting Nepal’s international history. He called on the State to increase investment in the sports sector. Chair Dahal thanked and congratulated the instructor, manager, the Taekwondo Association and Palesha’s family for contributing to preparing the base for this victory.

On the occasion, bronze-medalist Palesha shared her experience of securing the medal in the Paris Paralympics and said that now she will prepare aiming for gold medal in the next Olympics.
Instructor Lama, manager Shrestha, Nepal Taekwondo Association president Prakash Shumsher Rana, general-secretary Deep Raj Gurung, among other officials, National Sports Council (NSC) member-secretary Tanka Lal Ghising and Palesha’s father Pradip also put their views in the programme.
