Minister assures of amendment of human trafficking control act within year

Kathmandu: Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Nawal Kishor Sah Sudi, has said the Human Trafficking and Transportation (Control) Act-2064 BS (2008) will be amended within a year.

Taking part in a discussion organized by the Forum for Women, Law and Development (FWLD) on the occasion of the 18th National Day against Human Trafficking and Transportation here today, the Minister pledged to proceed with the amendment of the Act soon. As he said, only the formulation of laws is not sufficient to address the problems, their effective implementation is warranted and a wider cooperation from all quarters is needed for the same.

FWLD Director Sabin Shrestha advised the government to amend the Act for the implementation of Palermo Protocol to prevent, suppress and punish trafficking in human beings that was endorsed by Nepal on June 16, 2020.

FWLD Chair Gita Aryal, advocates Rojina Shrestha and Binod Chandra Devkota among mothers stressed the need to amend the Act soon to meet Nepal’s international commitments against human trafficking and transportation.
