Surkhet: Chief Minister of Karnali Province, Yam Lal Kandel, has won a vote of confidence of the Provincial Assembly for the second time. Chief Minister Kandel had tabled a proposal before the Assembly seeking a vote of confidence, as per the Article 188 (2) of the Constitution, on Monday.
Out of 40-member province assembly including the Speaker—Kandel received 23 votes while 14 votes were cast against the proposal. A province assembly member of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Santoshi Shah, remained absent while Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party leader Jeevan Bahadur Shahi remains suspended.
At least 23 votes are required to make a majority government in the province. CPN (UML) Parliamentary Party leader Kandel was appointed to the post of Chief Minister on April 9. He had received a vote of confidence on April 25 for the first time.
He registered the motion of trust for the second time after the formation of CPN (UML) and NC coalition government following the change in power equation in the federal level.
