Kathmandu: CPN-UML MP Devraj Ghimire has been elected as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Ghimire was elected Speaker of the House of Representatives through the voting process that took place today.
He got 167 votes out of the 138 votes required to be elected as the Speaker in the 275-member House of Representatives.
UML’s Devraj Ghimire and Ishwaridevi Neupane from the opposition Congress filed their nominations for the speakership. Ghimire got 167 votes while Neupane got 100 votes.
A total of 268 MPs were present in today’s voting process, one of them voted for none. The newly elected Speaker Ghimire is an MP elected from Jhapa 2.
