Kathmandu: The Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed the Nepal Police to investigate reports about spot fixing and match fixing allegedly taking place in ongoing T-20 league cricket tournament.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday, following the instruction of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, the Ministry asked the police to conduct necessary investigation into reports of match-fixing and irregularities in the salary of players, and about the organizers who are reportedly out of contact.
It may be noted that a cricket commentator involved in the tournament released a video alleging spot fixing in the tournament, and that the alarm he raised with the concerned authorities including Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) ended up in deaf ears.
The tournament involving cricket clubs has been going on since the December 24 at the Tribhuvan University Ground, Kirtipur. Following the instructions from the line Ministry, the Nepal Police have already started investigation into the incident.
