Kathmandu: India has lifted the ban on export of wheat to Nepal. It had imposed a ban five months back. On Thursday, India had issued a permission to import 50,000 tons of wheat.
Even after the ban, the import of the wheat was however continued in a clandestine way. Reasoning huge price of the wheat imported in an illegal way, the businesspersons and Nepal government requested the Indian government for allowing the import of wheat.
Following the request, the Foreign Trade General Directorate of India on Wednesday permitted the export of 50,000 tonnes of wheat till March 31, 2023. Nepal has been asked to provide details for the import.
The traders in Nepal were forced to buy wheat in black market as the price soared with its ban. The price had increased by 30 to 40 percent.
